In Jerez de la Frontera
In the great province of Cadiz sits the municipality of Jerez, which is short for Jerez de la Frontera. Economy in the municipality of Cadiz is strong surpassing even the capital city of the province with the same name, and this is due to the fact that Cadiz has become the transportation and communications hub of the province.
Jerez serves host to the Grand Prix motorcycle racing since 1987. The tournament, which is done in May at the Circuito de Jerez pulls in thousand of bike enthusiasts, contestants and fans alike, from all over the world. In the same venue, other several races are hosted including the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the European Grand Prix and the Vuelta a Espana 2014 cycle. The city is studded with several religious monuments and sites that pay tribute to Catholicism and to its saints. The religious sites are of varying architectural heritage and style such as Neoclassical, Baroque, Gothic and Romanesque. The Cathedral of San Salvador is the seat of the Roman catholic Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez. Other religious attractions are The Charterhouse, Church of San Miguel, Church of Santiago, among other churches, convents, chapels, and hermitages.
Jerez is located about 12 kilometres away from the Atlantic Ocean which makes it the perfect place to cultivate fruits that make their famous sherry. The city is also home to the Feria de Jerez and the Holy Week in Jerez, both festivals being widely celebrated with festivities.
