If you’re looking for a hideaway in Spain, then the small town of Almeria is the perfect fit for you. The town is said to be Spain’s best kept secret being one of the less travelled places in the very well-known country. The capital city of the province with the same name might be small but definitely has the ingredients of a great holiday, whether you want to relax or an adventure!
Almeria is home to the stunning crystal cave that was found in an old and abandoned silver mine. The geode is covered with large crystals of clear gypsum encompassing the entire cave that can comfortably fit up to 10 people. The geode is said to be the the only one that has been discovered as of press time. The crystals themselves aren’t allowed for viewing but a theme park within the vicinity was built for travellers and visitors who would like to catch a glimpse.
One of Spain’s Seven Natural Wonders
In the province where Almeria is located lies an unspoilt beaches of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park. With mesmerising crescent bays and beautiful, extensive coral reefs, the beach is not only picture perfect but also the best place for quiet basking under the sun.
Like most of what is found in the city, the desert is also one of the more unpopular ones in the world. The Tabernas Desert maybe less known by tourists but it surely has gained popularity among movie makers who want spectacular and realistic desert scenes. Most of Clint Eastwood’s ‘Spaghetti-Western’ themed movies have been shot here in the 1960s.
For a quiet respite in Spain, Almeria is a good place to stop for a while. Take your campervan for spin around the country and discover what else Spain has to offer like the well-known cities of Madrid, and Zurich in Switzerland.
