Reggio Calabria Airport, which is also known as Aeroporto dello Stretto (Airport of the Strait) serves three provinces in Italy: The province of Reggio, Messina and Vibo Valentia, respectively. The airlines fly to and from Italian cities and airports such as Milan-Linate, Rome-Fiumicino, Turin, Vienna, Venice and Genoa.

In Reggio

The province of Reggio has 97 comuni. It is famous for the production of 80% of the world’s Bergamot orange making it the symbol for the region. The fruit is grown to produce the essential oil for fragrance and skin care though it may also be  produced for consumption.

Drive away to Promenade Falcomata or Lungomare Falcomata, a scenic walking route. The street, which stretches to more than a kilometre, is a stunning waterfront with great views and seascapes. The avenue is one of Italy’s most beautiful with attractive points of interests including monuments, statues and surrounding palaces.

In Messina

The mountainous Messina province is home to its capital of the same name. The city is full of religious architecture such as the Cathedral where its bell tower holds one of the largest astronomical clocks in the world. Other religious sites are the Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Carmelo, Sanctuary of Montevergine, among others.

There are also fountains that stand in great honour namely, the Fountain of Orion, the Fountain of Neptune, the Senatory Fountain and the Four Fountains.

In Vibo Valentia

Like Messina, Vibo Valentia is a province and its capital city or comune is Vibo Valentia, too. The city is agricultural, commercial, industrial and touristic.

Things to see in the province include Museo Nazionale Archeologico (State Archeological Museum), the Norman Castle, the bell tower of San Michele. Briatico, which is one of the most interesting sites in the province, is an ancient settlement that can be visited.

Vibo Valentia also has a tropical paradises for water sport activities such as kitesurfing and windsurfing, and bicycle trekking and bird-watching.
